WHAT'S NEW

New report seeks improved space for faith & belief in New Towns strategy

Dialogue is losing currency when seeing a different side is ever more difficult, seemingly unappealing, and irrelevant. We need to have hard conversations and sustain them over time without losing hope in the end goal of living together well. The challenges we face are becoming more complex, requiring imaginative and bold responses. Through dialogue, research and collaborative action we can build stronger, safer communities with higher levels of trust.

How we do it

Dialogue
processes

We believe that dialogue provides a critical route to the solutions to problems that face us and our communities.

Inter-generational      engagement

Dialogue and collaboration across different generations combines multiple skills and perspectives to unlock new ideas.

Research &
policy

Dialogue processes can be informed by research that shines light on the issues at hand and highlights the interests of different  stakeholders.

Community collaboration

At In-Difference, we work with strategic partner organisations to ensure that dialogue is linked to action and broader, systemic change.

Our collaborations

UK
Parliament

The resilience and cohesion of society in the face of shocks and conflict depends on relationships between government and voluntary, community and faith groups. In-Difference is delivering policy-orientated dialogue on this issue.

Faith & Belief
Communities

We work with others to bring together people from different faith communities to recognise their contribution to social cohesion, and to better understand the importance of religion and belief to intersectional identities.

Disenfranchised
Groups

We work with small, grassroots charities to create the space to have conversations about subjects that might be difficult, like race, immigration and class.

International
Partners

We support  those working for peace and justice beyond the UK, encouraging the sharing of learning and recognising the connections between events at home and abroad.

‘I am so glad to see this important initiative. In-Difference promises to be a vital contribution to dialogue at a time when we badly need it. I have worked with Phil for many years and have appreciated his sustained support for the Lord Lieutenant’s Council on Faith in London and interfaith work more broadly. I look forward to continuing to work with him on this new, important venture.’

Bushra Nasir CBE DL. (One of the first Muslim female headteachers of a secondary school in the UK, Bushra was awarded a CBE for her services to education in 2003. She has been named in the top 10 Muslim women in the ‘Muslim Power List ' produced by the Equality and Human Rights Commission and was awarded TES Headteacher of the Year in summer 2012).

‘In-Difference is arriving in the interfaith and peacebuilding space at a critical moment. Compared to 100 years ago, we are living with less poverty and violence, and increased levels of life expectancy and literacy. However, development continues to be uneven, and the challenges we face are becoming more complex. In-Difference promises to engage head on with this complexity, drawing on a deep pool of expertise and experience, both in the UK and abroad. Having worked with Phil for nearly a decade now I know that this bold new initiative is in good hands. I am excited to see how In-Difference develops.’

David Dangoor CBE DL (A British businessman and philanthropist, David spent his early years in Baghdad as part of Iraq’s Jewish community. He has been involved in community activities for most of his life, and very active in education acting as the Sponsor Governor of Westminster Academy in London since it was founded in 2006. He was until December 2023 a Deputy Lieutenant for Greater London and a keen supporter of interfaith work, chairing the Lord Lieutenant of Greater London's Council on Faith for 9 years from 2015 to 2023).
