Who We Are
We are a group of dialogue practitioners, researchers and activists committed to harnessing difference to make a better world. We have worked for decades, and in different ways and in different countries, in the interfaith, social cohesion, and peacebuilding sectors. As a group, we are concerned with growing social polarisation and divisive narratives. We recognise the seriousness of the challenges that face us, and believe that dialogue is an essential ingredient for solutions that must embrace our differences. The space for such dialogue is being eroded. We want to change that.
Our Approach
In-Difference is dedicated to harnessing the power of diversity to address critical issues facing our communities. We believe that every difference is a unique opportunity to craft a better future. Although dialogue is at the centre of our work, we value the insights that can be generated by research. We also embrace the power of partnership and collaboration which ensure dialogue leads to positive action. These three interconnected components - dialogue, research and collaborative action - are the bedrock of our methodology.
Our Principles

Build social cohesion
Strong bonding and bridging capital are important for building relationships that sustain social cohesion. This requires regular, sustained, often small actions that ensure connectivity and understanding.

Repair & prevent harm
Harm from conflict is to relationships. Broken relationships need to be repaired. Restorative approaches to making things right are an important alternative to, and can complement, retributive approaches., They also prevent further violent conflict.

Share space
Dialogue requires different parties to use the opportunity to engage. One aspect to consider when thinking how best to do this is when to yield space to others. Being aware of power dynamics is at the heart of sound processes and collaborations.

Innovate
The social and environmental problems we face are unlikely to be solved through business as usual. Creating new meaning and generating new ideas is the promise of dialogue that embraces difference.

Respect the natural environment
The climate crisis and sustainable development goals tell us we must find ways of living respectfully with the natural world we depend on. Many of the challenges we face are wrapped up with the economic, political and social implications of this reality.
